Daily Devotion: Complete in Christ Week Seven, Day One

Read: Colossians 2:1–7

Devotion

We live in a world filled with competing voices. Everywhere we turn, someone is telling us what we should believe, how we should live, and what will make us happy. Some of those voices are obviously wrong, but others sound reasonable. They may even sound wise, compassionate, and informed.

That is exactly why Paul was concerned for the believers in Colossae. He wanted them to be firmly established in Christ so that they would not be deceived by persuasive arguments.

Paul says, “Just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him.”

Notice that Paul doesn't tell them to find something new. He tells them to continue in what they already know to be true.

The Christian life isn't about constantly looking for something beyond Christ. It is about going deeper into Christ. The more we know God's truth, the better equipped we are to recognize what contradicts it. You don't recognize a counterfeit by studying every possible counterfeit. You recognize it by knowing the genuine article.

The same is true spiritually.

Know the Truth to Recognize the Lie.

• What voices influence the way I think and live?

• Am I spending more time listening to the world or learning God's Word?

• Am I growing deeper in my knowledge of Christ?

• Is there an area of my life where I need to return to the truth of Scripture?

Prayer

Lord, help me know Your truth so well that I can recognize the lies around me. Keep me from being distracted by every new idea or teaching that comes my way. Help me continue to walk in Christ and become more deeply rooted in Him. Amen.
