Daily Devotion: Complete in Christ Week Ten, Day One

Read: Romans 6:1–11
Devotion
Paul reminds us that when we come to Christ, something profound happens. We are united with Christ in His death and resurrection. Our old life has been put to death, and we have been raised to walk in newness of life.
That doesn't mean Christians never struggle with sin. It means sin no longer has the same claim over us. We don't belong to the old life anymore. This is why Paul can tell the Colossians, “Since you have been raised with Christ…” The command to seek the things above is built upon something God has already done.
Remember what Christ has done for you. You aren't trying to earn a new identity. You have been given one in Christ. The Christian life isn't about taking the old you and making him a little better. It is about living out the new life Christ has given you.
Reflection
What difference should your new life in Christ make in the way you live today?
Are there areas where you are still living as though you belong to your old life?
How does remembering what Christ has done change the way you face temptation?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for giving me new life through Jesus Christ. Help me remember that my old life has been crucified with Christ and that I have been raised to walk in newness of life. Help me live today as someone who belongs to You. Amen.
