Daily Devotion: Complete in Christ Week Eight, Day Five

Reading: Colossians 2:11–15; Ephesians 2:1–8

Devotion

Paul closes this section by reminding the Colossians not only of who Jesus is, but of what Jesus has done. We were dead in our trespasses. But Jesus made us alive. We were guilty. But Jesus forgave us. We had a certificate of debt standing against us.

But Jesus erased it. We were enslaved to sin. But Jesus set us free.

And Paul says that God took our debt away by nailing it to the cross. This is the heart of the gospel. We don't save ourselves. We don't complete what Jesus started. We don't earn God's forgiveness through religious rituals, good works, human traditions, or personal achievement. Jesus paid the price.

Paul's message to the Colossians is the same message we need today:

Don't allow anyone to convince you that Jesus isn't enough.

By God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, our debt has been cleared and our sins have been forgiven. Christ alone is enough.

Reflection

• Do I truly understand the seriousness of my sin and the greatness of God's forgiveness?

• Am I trusting completely in Christ for my salvation?

• Am I living as someone whose debt has been forgiven and whose life has been made new?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You for making me alive, forgiving my sins, and erasing the debt I could never pay. Help me never forget what You have done for me. May I know You, trust You, and stand firmly in the truth of the gospel. Amen.
