Daily Devotion: Complete in Christ Week Eight, Day Four

Reading: Colossians 2:9–10; John 1:1–18
Devotion
After warning the Colossians about false teaching, Paul immediately points them back to Jesus. Why? Because knowing the truth about Jesus is one of the best defenses against false teaching.
Colossians 2:9 says:
“For the entire fullness of God's nature dwells bodily in Christ.”
Jesus isn't partially God. He isn't simply a great teacher. He isn't merely a prophet. He isn't one spiritual option among many. The fullness of God dwells in Christ.
Jesus is fully God and fully man. And verse 10 tells us something else: “you have been filled by him.” The false teachers were offering something they claimed could make the Colossians spiritually complete. Paul says, in effect: You already have Christ. What more do you need?
The answer is nothing. Jesus is sufficient because Jesus is supreme. When the world gives you a different picture of Jesus, return to Scripture and remember who He really is.
Reflection
Who is Jesus according to Scripture?
Do I believe that Jesus is fully God and fully sufficient?
Am I looking anywhere besides Christ for spiritual fulfillment?
Prayer
Jesus, help me know You more deeply. Thank You that the fullness of God dwells in You and that everything I need for salvation and spiritual life is found in You. Keep me from believing anything that diminishes who You are. Amen.
