Daily Devotion: Complete in Christ Week Seven, Day Two

Devotion

James begins this passage with a simple warning: “Don’t be deceived.” That warning is necessary because deception is real. We are surrounded by messages that tell us God cannot be trusted, that His Word is outdated, or that truth changes with culture. But James reminds us that God does not change.

He is the “Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Think about how reassuring that is. Everything around us changes. Culture changes. Opinions change. Political ideas change. Scientific theories develop. People change. Even our own emotions can change from one day to the next. But God does not change.

That means when the world tells us one thing and God's Word tells us another, we don't have to wonder which truth will last. God's truth will stand.

• Where am I most tempted to question God's truth?

• Have I allowed cultural opinions to influence my understanding of Scripture?

• What does God's unchanging character mean for my life today?

• Am I trusting God's Word even when I don't understand everything?

Prayer

Father, thank You that You never change. When the world around me is uncertain, help me trust Your unchanging character and Your Word. Guard my heart from deception and help me stand firmly on what You have said. Amen.
