Daily Devotion: Complete in Christ Week Two, Day One

Read Colossians 1:9

"For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven't stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding." (CSB)

Devotion

Paul doesn't pray first for the Colossian believers to be healthier, wealthier, or more comfortable. Instead, he prays that they would be filled with the knowledge of God's will.

The word "filled" paints the picture of something completely occupied—leaving no room for anything else. God doesn't want us to have just enough knowledge to get by. He desires for His truth to shape, control and transform every area of our lives.

Many of us spend our days asking, "What should I do?" when perhaps the better question is, "Am I allowing God to fill my heart with His Word?"

When we know God's character, His Word, and His purposes, His will becomes much clearer. God's will isn't hidden from those who are consistently seeking Him.

Reflection

  • What voices are filling your mind more than God's Word?

  • Are you asking God to change your circumstances, or to change your heart first?

Prayer

Father, fill me with the knowledge of Your will today. Help me desire Your wisdom above my own understanding. Let Your Word shape my decisions, my attitudes, and my actions so that my life brings You glory. Amen.
